News update 18 April 2010
Geoff Barker marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Rock 'n' Roll legend Eddie Cochran whilst he was on tour in Wiltshire. Geoff pays tribute to Cochran with a star- studded documentary, 'Eddie in the UK'. Joe Brown, Marty Wilde, Georgie Fame, and Vince Eager share their memories of touring with Cochran. Plus, Paul McCartney explains how one of Cochran's songs led directly to the formation of The Beatles, and we hear some of your memories of that last tour - including Eddie Cochran's final show in Bristol.

News update 17 April 2010
Today it is 50 years ago that the great Eddie Cochran was killed in a car accident outside Chippenham, Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. His girlfriend Sharon Sheeley and his friend, fellow rocker Gene Vincent, survived the crash. Eddie Cochran’s legend lives on 50 years after that fateful day and will live on for many years to come. We can safely assume that Eddie Cochran’s talent will always be recognized by new generations and that he will never be forgotten.

     Eddie Cochran Anniversary Special

Ahead of Radio 2’s Sixties Season at the end of May, the second hour of Sounds of the Sixties on Saturday 17 April 2010 marks the exact 50th anniversary of the death of Eddie Cochran. On this special programme we look at the tour itself. It was the very first authentic rock tour in the UK and one which changed the sound of British music and the style of stage presentation. Promoted by Larry Parnes it brought together Eddie and Gene and had a profound and lasting influence on young British musicians and audiences alike

Click on the link to go to the show. It will be available for one week (after opening the BBC iPlayer forward to 59 minutes in the show):
