Rowden Hill, Chippenham
I was in Chippenham in September 2003 for "The 9th Chippenham Eddie Cochran Rock-n-Roll Festival". After arriving in Chippenham I went straight to Rowden Hill where the taxi crashed. Over the course of two days, 25th and 26th of september, I took the pictures that you can see on this page ...

This is part of the map of Chippenham. The taxi that carried Eddie, his fiancee Sharon Sheeley, Gene Vincent, Patrick Thompkins was on its way from Bristol to London. It entered Chippenham via Bath Road, passed a viaduct and up to Rowden Hill. Just after the viaduct, just before Rowden Hill, the taxi crashed. For a detailed account of the accident read Dark Lonely Street ...

This picture is taken on the left side of the viaduct (see the map). The taxi came from this direction ...

This is the viaduct the taxi drove through ...

The taxi came out on this side (the right side of the viaduct on the map), at the feet of Rowden Hill ...

Somewhere on this spot the taxi started to slip and crashed ...

On the far left you can see the memorial plaque ...

Up to Rowden Hill, the memorial plaque is on the left ...
